True Wisdom

God’s wisdom is incredible. So why do so many parents rely on worldly wisdom? So often we embrace wisdom from life experience, or from learning. This worldly wisdom seems like it is good, however it’s important to understand that although it may work sometimes, over time it will ultimately fail you. Why? Because God’s ways don’t follow the ways of the world. Proverbs 14:12 ” There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.” The path that seems right is worldly wisdom.
Psalm 111:10 “Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom.” The way to become truly wise is to fear (revere) God, but too often parents skip this crucial step in their attempts at discovering wisdom. This is exactly what Solomon is saying in Proverbs 1: 7 “The fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.”
We live in an age of information with internet, smart phones, computers, wi-fi, etc. With all this technology, knowledge is plentiful but true wisdom is scarce. Wisdom means so much more than just knowing a lot. It’s a principle that affects every aspect of our lives. The foundation of wisdom is to fear the Lord – to honor and respect God, to live in awe of his power, and to obey his Word. Faith in God should be the controlling principle for your understanding of the world, your attitudes, actions and your parenting.
Make asking for God’s wisdom in your parenting a regular part of your prayer life and watch what God will do!
