A Perfect Mothers Day Gift

MMothers Day Gifty husband found the perfect Mothers Day gift this year, worth lots of hugs and kisses and my gratitude. This year, I’m getting…Maids! Yep, my house is so dirty since we let the maids go, that when he said “Honey, I think we need to hire the maids again,” I leaped with joy. What busy Mom doesn’t appreciate some help at home?

Secretly, I think my perfect Mothers Day gift is a solution for my husband to have more free golf time. After all, he no longer needs to help me with the bathroom cleaning, kitchen cleaning, and shopping, so he has some free time. What will he do? I see the golf clubs waiting beside the door…

Okay, so I’m getting the maids. I felt terrible when we let them go, yet it was necessary when the economy tanked and we felt the need to cut back on luxuries. We saved money without the housecleaning service, but we did not save time. The piles of clutter continued to build to the point that my seven year old daughter noticed.

“Mom,” she squeaked, “I don’t mean to offend you (typical Christ-centered kid), “but I kinda miss the maids. Now my room is always a mess and I can never find anything.” Gulp.

I still remember when she wwas just four years old, came rushing in from preschool, and gave me the biggest squeeze ever. “Oh Mom, thank you, thank you, thank you. I love you so much Mom, you cleaned the house.” I was too emotionally damaged to tell her the maids cleaned it, not Mom.

Right after that, I terminated the high-priced nanny who ironed the baby clothes, the landscapers, and the maids. I felt too guilty and did not want my child raised with these values. We sold the million-dollar dream home, I quit my job in California real estate, and I cleaned my own home. My husband bought me a “cleaning kit” for my new role as stay at home Mom, not my favorite Mothers Day gift. I followed the rules of the FlyLady, for awhile.

Through a prayer request, God called me to ministry. I started my own company at LifeVerse™ Jewelry, became passionate about beading jewelry for Christ, and before I knew it, my home was a mess because I was working all the time. My time is spent with family, work, Bible Study and not cleaning my home. My work provides the resources to send my kids to a Christian school, and since my tween wants to go to Carondelet High, I’ll be working even harder to provide that for her. Thankfully, God has provided maids and I’m providing them income.

I’m one of those women who “clean before the maids get here.” I clean before they clean, because if I did not pick up the piles of family joy (aka: toys, clothes, shoes, books, laundry) then the maids could not find the floors. The entire family gets involved as I scream “Maids are coming, Maids are coming. Time to clean your rooms.” It really sounds silly…something we’ll discuss in therapy when the kids are 20 years old.

I love my maids, they clean even better than I ever could. The beds are made, the gunk is cleaned from the kitchen, and the home smells great. It takes three-four maids about two hours to clean, and when they are done, my home is blessed. They even make those “hotel style” small folds in the toilet paper rolls, a signature that my home is refreshed.

I am grateful for having two beautiful children, and a wonderful husband who is giving me maids for Mothers Day! If you don’t want maids for a Mothers Day Gift, you’ll find lots of beautiful jewelry at LifeVerseJewelry.com.
